I have been approved by the Illinois State Police as an Illinois Concealed Carry Firearms Instructor. My other certifications include NRA pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer. I also offer NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home course.
Our classes are conducted in a clean, well-lit, comfortable conference room. Local ranges are used for the qualification requirement, as needed. Additionally, private group training is available, in your facility. You will need safety glasses and earplugs. I will provide the firearms and ammunition. You do not need a FOID to take the class, no experience is necessary, first time students are welcome. Please DO NOT bring Firearms or ammunition to class!

Illinois Concealed Carry Class (16 hours) cost is $250 per person, ask about veteran discounts!

To fulfill the Illinois State Police 16 hour training requirement, you must take Part 1 and a Part 2 class.
US Military Special offer:
Servicemen and women receive an 8 hour time credit for their service from the Illinois State Police and are only required to complete 8 hour of firearms training with their DD-214 showing an Honorable Discharge. Midland Firearms Training offers the 8 hour course for $150, but we offer the Midland Firearms Training Basic Pistol Class “no charge” for veterans. In other words, you will receive all 16 hours of training for $150.
Class Rules
- Safety is the first rule of firearms training.
- Firearms training is serious business, horseplay will not be tolerated.
- All classes will be English language only.
- Do not bring firearms or ammo into the class, please secure them in your vehicle until you are asked to bring it into the class and then only unloaded firearms are allowed.
Students are welcome to take a refresher class at no charge, any Midland Firearms Training Basic class Part 1 or Part 2. It is our goal to help our students be the safest, most informed gun owners possible. Contact John at john@midlandfirearms.com for more details.

Short Description : Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.
More Details: This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. Prerequistes: NRA Basic Pistol
The Intermediate Pistol Course is all about getting comfortable with your firearm. This course will drive the core marksmanship fundamentals required to master the manipulation of your firearm. This course will take you out of the comfortable static shooting most people do at the local range. Emphasis is taken on instilling safety and proficiency with your firearm.
This course will prepare you to properly, safely and effectively unholster your firearm and present it to a threat if such need should arise. The dynamics of shooting at closer distances will be explained and the hands-on drills will drive home the importance of the core fundamentals.
This course is 25% classroom and 75% hands-on and will have you firing your handgun for approximately 6 hours. Manipulating your firearm under new pressures and timed constraints will prepare you for the unexpected. This course will not only teach you the skills, but will also give you the confidence you need to feel comfortable handling your firearm in worst case scenarios. This course is 1 day of hands-on lecture and hands-on drills.
Equipment Required: Revolver or semi-auto handgun (handgun rental available), Minimum 3 magazines (5 ideal), 250 rounds of ammunition, Strong side holster (Fobus type recommended, without button release), Empty chamber indicator, Magazine holster, Eye and ear protection, Baseball style cap, Speed loader, Water bottle.
Short Description : Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.
More Details: This course is at least 14 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. More Details: This course is at least ten-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. Short Description : Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.
More Details: This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.(Lesson Plan, revised 08/11)
NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
If you already have your Illinois Concealed Carry Permit and it is about to expire, you are required by the Illinois State Police to submit a 3-HOUR REFRESHER Certificate with your renewal. Midland Firearms Training will be offering the 3-HOUR RENEWAL classes and certificates on nights and weekends. The curriculum includes the law relating to the ownership, storage, carry and transportation of a firearm. The FOID Act, the laws relating to use of force and unlawful Use of Weapons. We will also review; the shooting fundamentals, proper concealment and shoot the Illinois State Police qualification on a B-27 target. You do not need to bring anything to class, we provide the firearm, ammunition, targets and range fees. Tuition cost is $75 per student. Classes will start in August 2018.
